Michelin has introduced a new 11x4.00-5 8/160 PILOT TL size to its premium Pilot General Aviation tyre range, developed in partnership with Beringer. Designed for homebuilt, aerobatic and modern light aircraft, this addition reinforces Michelin's leadership in high-performance bias-ply aviation tyres.
The latest size combines Michelin's proven durability with advanced engineering, featuring a robust rubber compound for extended tyre life and consistent performance across landings. Its tubeless construction reduces wheel weight and prevents tyre creep, while the tread design ensures precise tracking during taxi, takeoff and landing.
Available now, the tyre will be showcased at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh on both Michelin and Beringer exhibits. The expansion reflects Michelin's commitment to meeting the evolving demands of pilots with reliable, high-quality solutions for general aviation.
Frederic Behm, Segment Marketing Director for the General Aviation, said, "For Michelin to introduce a new tyre size in collaboration with Beringer is a testament to our commitment to the continued development of innovative solutions and meeting the evolving needs of the aviation market. This new size will significantly benefit general aviation aircraft owners, providing them with the reliability and performance they expect from Michelin."

- July 29, 2025

The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) has released replacement tyre sales data for Q2 and the first half of 2025. Secretary General Adam McCarthy noted that economic and geopolitical challenges continue to weaken market confidence, with only the Motorcycle & Scooter segment showing growth due to reduced non-pool volumes.
Consumer tyre sales fell four percent in Q2, leading to a slight overall decline in H1. Truck and Agricultural tyre segments followed similar trends as earlier in the year. Compared to pre-pandemic 2019 levels, most segments remain below 2019 volumes: consumer tyres down 2.8 percent, Truck tyres down 14.3 percent and Agricultural tyres down 47 percent. The Motorcycle & Scooter segment was the sole exception.
European Tyre Retailers And Fitters Influence Purchase Decisions, New Survey Reveals

- July 29, 2025

A new study commissioned by Apollo Tyres Ltd and conducted by OnePoll reveals that European tyre retailers and fitters significantly influence consumer decisions when purchasing replacement tyres. The survey, which polled 1,000 respondents per market, found that 30 percent of car owners rely on recommendations from tyre fitters or retailers – the most trusted source of guidance. This surpasses other influences, such as independent expert reviews (18 percent), manufacturer recommendations (17 percent) and customer feedback (11 percent).
Older drivers (65+) depend most on retailer advice (45 percent), while younger consumers (18-24) favour online expert reviews. When searching for replacement tyres online, priorities include cost savings and safety (26 percent each), followed by performance (19 percent), efficiency (16 percent) and comfort (13 percent). Financial concerns matter most to those aged 35-44 (28 percent) and least to younger buyers (21 percent).
Yves Pouliquen, Vice President Commercial EMEA at Apollo Tyres Ltd, said, “While many car owners will start their research into replacement tyres online, it’s clear that fitters and retailers continue to play a critical role in guiding final purchase decisions. We will continue to explore new ways to support customers across Europe as we further expand our product portfolio over the coming years.”
