Goodyear Celebrates 45 Years Of Eagle Branded Tyres

Goodyear Celebrates 45 Years Of Eagle Branded Tyres

Goodyear is commemorating the 45th anniversary of its most iconic ultra-high-performance product line, Goodyear Eagle-branded tyres, this year. Goodyear Eagle tyres are a symbol on and off the track, combining the company's legendary performance for sports vehicles with its history in the world's top racing championships.

Although Goodyear had previously used the Eagle moniker on occasion, 1980 was a major turning point, when the company boosted investments in that year and applied its knowledge and racing technology to consumer goods. The business chose to call its racing and ultra-high performance road tyres as the Goodyear Eagle brand in order to emphasise the link between track and road.

The new Goodyear Eagle high-performance road tyres proved as popular as the track version. The Eagle VR50 was created shortly after the first official Eagle road tyre was introduced for the US market in 1981 in order to comply with the more stringent European speed regulations. V-rated, or VR for short, meant that the tyre could endure speeds of up to 130 mph (209 km/h), which at the time was the maximum speed rating requirement in Europe.

With a Guinness World Record speed of 240.1 mph (386.4 km/h), the McLaren F1 was introduced in 1992 and was the fastest production automobile in the world at the time. Goodyear created the Eagle F1 tyre specifically for this remarkable engineering achievement in order to satisfy the demands placed on it. With the introduction of the Eagle F1 GS-D2 (Grand Sport - Directional) in 1994 and the GS-D3 in 2000, the directional tread pattern in the VR50 became the model for the following generation of Eagle Road tyres since it was so well-liked for its mix of dry handling feedback and wet weather traction. Up to the 2007 release of Eagle F1 Asymmetric, directional patterns continued to be the primary design principle.

With the introduction of Eagle F1 SuperSport, a new line of ultra-ultra-high-performance tyres for the best performance on the road and the track, the Eagle series advanced to a new level in 2019. This line, which comes in SuperSport, SuperSport R and SuperSport RS variations, represents the pinnacle of the Goodyear Eagle brand's history over more than 40 years, with each model getting closer to track day specialisation than the previous. Eagle F1 tyres, which range from SuperSport to Asymmetric 6, are standard on a variety of performance vehicles, including the Lotus Emira, Porsche Macan 4 Electric, BMW 1 Series and Audi S5. Eagle F1 SuperSport RS, which was specifically created in partnership with Porsche for the manufacturers' RS versions such the 911 GT2 RS and GT3 RS, serves the track day.
