Goodyear Debuts Motor City Garage And Double Blimp Display For 2026 Woodward Dream Cruise

Goodyear is set to debut its first retail concept store in Detroit, the Goodyear Motor City Garage, just in time for the 2026 Woodward Dream Cruise. The opening coincides with a historic aerial display, as two Goodyear Blimps will fly over the Motor City for the first time in nearly two decades. This dual-blimp appearance will provide a bird's-eye view of the automotive spectacle, which annually draws over 40,000 classic vehicles and more than one and a half million enthusiasts.

The new garage will open on 15th August at eight in the morning at 3075 East Grand Boulevard. This specialised auto service centre functions as a hub for car culture, similar to destination retail concepts like a Starbucks Reserve Roastery. While offering expert services such as tyre sales, oil changes, alignments, brake service and battery replacement, the space also showcases the company’s technological innovations and storied heritage.

A custom Detroit-themed Eagle racing tyre, laser-carved with a tribute to the city, will be on display alongside a 1973 Ford Mustang convertible from ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show’ and a 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am ‘Bandit’. The Dream Cruise weekend will also feature new remote-controlled mini blimps, with further details to be announced on social media. The event honours Detroit engineers who once raced along Woodward Avenue, and Goodyear’s ties to the city date back to the early 1900s when Henry Ford collaborated with the company.

The Motor City Garage exemplifies Goodyear’s broader transformation, which includes approximately 1,500 new products planned for 2026 and a focus on higher-performance tyres. As the only major tyre manufacturer headquartered in United States, based in Akron, Ohio, Goodyear is striving to become more consumer-focused and digitally connected. The company also offers mobile installation service in 28 markets, including Detroit, allowing for tyre servicing at customer locations. Woodward Avenue remains a symbolic stretch where millions of Goodyear tyres have left their mark.

Mark Stewart, CEO, Goodyear, said, "Some of the best vehicles in the world have been laying down Goodyear rubber in Detroit since Henry Ford put them on his 999 race car in 1901. From track to tarmac to trail, Goodyear makes tyres worth bragging about, and we'll be doing just that during the Woodward Dream Cruise. Whether you're an enthusiast looking for ultra-high performance or just need help picking the best tyres to get your SUV through the school pick-up line, we're looking to show you how easy Goodyear can make vehicle care. Detroit's car culture makes it the perfect place to showcase our new retail concept alongside our Mobile Garage service that can install tyres and service your vehicle right in your driveway."

Continental Unveils ZEvRA Concept Tyre With 43 Percent Recycled Materials

Continental Unveils ZEvRA Concept Tyre With 43 Percent Recycled Materials

Continental has unveiled a concept tyre developed under the EU-funded ZEvRA project, which is composed of approximately 43 percent recycled materials. The innovation serves as a demonstration of the potential inherent in advanced material approaches while simultaneously underscoring the critical need for a dependable regulatory framework to facilitate the industrial-scale adoption of recycling technologies.

The technical achievement is set against the backdrop of the ZEvRA initiative, an acronym for ‘Zero Emission Electric Vehicles Enabled by Harmonized Circularity’. This two-year EU project, slated to conclude in 2026, is dedicated to enhancing the circular economy for electric vehicles across the entire value chain. As the sole tyre manufacturer participating in the consortium, Continental brings specialised expertise to the collaborative effort.

Addressing the complexities of tyre production, which requires a precise balance of numerous high-performance raw materials to guarantee safety, efficiency and durability, the concept tyre represents a significant milestone. The successful integration of a substantial proportion of recycled content into a safety-critical component, without compromising performance standards, highlights the compatibility of ecological responsibility and product excellence. The tyre has achieved the highest possible rating on the EU rolling resistance label.

The ZEvRA concept tyre incorporates a variety of recycled materials, including tall oil, steel, rubber derived from end-of-life tyres and polyester fibres sourced from recycled PET bottles. Continental employs advanced methodologies such as pyrolysis to extract recovered carbon black from old tyres for repurposing. Since 2023, this material has been utilised in all newly manufactured solid rubber tyres at the Korbach facility. Additionally, the company uses sand residue from foundries in a recycling process to produce an alternative silica variant, effectively keeping materials in circulation and reducing the demand for primary resources.

Continental executives have articulated the strategic importance of this development. Dr Andreas Topp, head of Platform Development and Industrialization for passenger-car tyres, emphasises that while circular materials are key to sustainable mobility, the full impact of technological progress requires reliable and aligned policy frameworks. Jorge Almeida, head of Sustainability for Continental’s Tires group sector, stresses the necessity of establishing innovative recycling technologies on an industrial scale and creating closed material flows. He advocates for a standardised, transparent approach to calculation and reporting, developed through close dialogue between policymakers and stakeholders.

Beyond the recycled content, the concept tyre also features approximately 13 percent renewable raw materials and 25 percent mass-balance-certified materials, bringing the total share of sustainable sources to over 80 percent. Continental is progressively increasing the use of such materials across its portfolio, with the share of purchased renewable and recycled production materials reaching 28 percent in 2025, with a target of at least 40 percent by 2030. Insights from the ZEvRA project will guide the company’s future development of materials and technologies, focusing on industrial availability and scaling manufacturing processes.

Continental’s Aero 111 Tyre Now Available In Wider 32 mm Size For Enhanced Comfort And Speed

Continental’s Aero 111 Tyre Now Available In Wider 32 mm Size For Enhanced Comfort And Speed

Continental has introduced a 32-mm variant of its Aero 111 road tyre, expanding the range of its most aerodynamically advanced model. Developed in partnership with Swiss Side, this wider version aims to deliver the same drag-reducing performance while catering to cyclists seeking a combination of speed and improved comfort on demanding surfaces.

The tyre’s aerodynamic efficiency is achieved through a patented tread pattern featuring 48 precision cavities that function as vortex generators. This design manipulates airflow around the front wheel to delay separation, maintaining optimal performance across varying wind angles. The result is a significant reduction in drag and an enhanced sailing effect, allowing for greater forward propulsion with reduced rider effort.

Despite its broader profile, the tyre maintains its speed and durability credentials through Continental’s BlackChili compound, ensuring low rolling resistance and dependable grip in all conditions. Protection is provided by the Vectran Breaker layer, and the tubeless-ready casing is compatible with hookless rims. Offered in black sidewall and three widths, the Aero 111 now serves a wider array of road cycling demands.

Hannah Ferle, Road Product Manager, Continental Tires, said, “With the addition of the 32 mm width, we truly are offering aero performance from every angle. Developing the Aero 111 alongside Swiss Side has allowed us to build a tyre like no other, one that performs across even the most demanding conditions. The Aero 111 has already proven the benefits of advanced airflow management, but this additional width allows us to bring those same aerodynamic gains and crosswind-taming technologies to the modern road cyclist who refuses to compromise on comfort.”
