Hankook To Supply Racing Tyres For 2025 FIA World Rally Championship

From left to right - Hankook Tire Motorsports Marketing Vice President Youngsoo Kim, Hankook Tire Europe President & COO Sanghoon Lee, Hankook Tire Vice Chairman & CEO Sooil Lee, WRC Promoter Managing Director Jona Siebel, WRC Promoter Senior Director Sport Peter Thul and WRC Promoter Account Director Marketing Services Stephanie von Veltheim

Hankook Tire has secured a three-year exclusive agreement to supply tyres for all classes of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) starting in 2025. The deal, finalised at Hankook's Technoplex headquarters in South Korea in November 2024, marks a significant expansion of the company's motorsport presence.

The WRC, ranking alongside Formula 1 as one of motorsport's most prestigious competitions, presents unique challenges that push vehicles and equipment to the limits. Unlike circuit racing, WRC competitors battle across diverse terrains at speeds reaching 124 mph (200 km/h), demanding exceptional tyre performance across unpaved, snowy and muddy conditions. The 2025 season will see Hyundai, Toyota and Ford competing across four continents.

To meet these demanding conditions, Hankook will supply a comprehensive range of specialised tyres. The line-up includes the Ventus Z215 for optimal cornering and handling in both dry and wet conditions, the Ventus Z210 engineered for superior wet-weather grip and the Dynapro R213, an all-weather rally tyre designed for unpaved surfaces. For winter conditions, Hankook offers the Winter i*cept SR20 for snowy terrain and the Winter i*Pike SR10W, featuring specialized stud pins for icy conditions.

This partnership elevates Hankook into an elite group of manufacturers supporting multiple FIA world championships as it already supplies tyres for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The company's selection builds on its extensive motorsport experience, including its initial role as a WRC tyre supplier in 2014 and successful partnerships with the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) and FIA Junior ERC.

WRC Promoter GmbH Managing Director Jona Siebel expressed enthusiasm about the partnership stating, “Our successful collaboration with Hankook through the ERC has paved the way for this expanded relationship. Its dedication to developing WRC-specific tyres has been impressive and we're eager to see their performance at the Monte Carlo Rally.”

The 2025 WRC season kicks off with the iconic Rallye Monte-Carlo in Monaco, January 23-26, marking the first of 14 rounds across four continents. Through this partnership, Hankook not only demonstrates its technical prowess but also strengthens its position in the premium tyre market while delivering cutting-edge technology to rally enthusiasts worldwide.

Cambodia to Get Sixth Tyre Plant With USD 500 Million Wanli Investment

Chinese tyre maker Wanli Tire Co. is investing USD 500 million to build Cambodia's sixth tyre manufacturing facility, marking the latest Chinese investment in Southeast Asian nations' growing special economic zones programme.

The plant, set to employ 1,000 workers across 32 hectares in Svay Rieng province's Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone, will be developed in two phases, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol said at the ceremony on Sunday. The investment follows discussions between Chanthol and Guangzhou Industrial Investment Holding Group Chairman Jing Guangjun in China last October.

The project represents Cambodia's sixth tyre manufacturing facility and the second within the Sihanoukville zone, highlighting its push to diversify its manufacturing base under Prime Minister Hun Manet's administration.

"This investment reflects growing confidence in Cambodia's stable political and macroeconomic environment," Chanthol said at the event, which Chinese Ambassador Wang Wenbin and Wanli Tire Chairman Cao Xiandong attended.

According to government data, Cambodia's special economic zones have attracted USD 11.7 billion in investments across 835 projects, creating more than 195,000 jobs. Svay Rieng province alone hosts 12 such zones with 280 projects valued at approximately USD three billion.
