Kumho ECSTA PS71 Secures 'Exemplary' Rating In AutoBild 2025 Summer Tyre Test

Kumho Tyre’s ECSTA PS71 tyre has been rated 'Exemplary' in AutoBild's 2025 Summer Tyre Test for its wet handling, braking performance and cost efficiency.

As part of its annual summer tyre test, AutoBild, one of Germany's most reputable automobile magazines, assessed 52 summer tyres in the size 225/40R18. One of the best-performing models in this year's lineup was Kumho's ECSTA PS71, which came in fourth overall. The ECSTA PS71 stood out in particular for its exceptional wet performance, surpassing all of its rivals. In the wet handling category, it was the only tyre to get a perfect score of ‘1’. Additionally, the tyre showed a high level of resistance to aquaplaning, preserving stability and predictability on wet terrain.

The ECSTA PS71 is an ultra-high-performance (UHP) tyre that has been designed with a compound that improves braking on wet roads and a tread pattern optimised for water evacuation. Additionally, it provides high-speed stability, which makes it appropriate for both daily driving and more aggressive use. Testers praised the tyre's excellent all-around handling, quick braking distances in both wet and dry conditions and accurate driving characteristics. These features set the PS71 apart in terms of driver enjoyment as well as safety. Another area in which the PS71 excelled was cost effectiveness. The tyre had one of the greatest price-to-mileage ratios, giving durability without sacrificing dynamic performance, according to the test.

Sumitomo Rubber Plans New US Technical Centre

Sumitomo Rubber Industries is establishing a new technical centre in Getzville to bolster its research and development for the automotive tyre markets across North and South America.

The facility will be dedicated to advancing passenger, motorcycle and light truck tyre design for both original equipment and replacement customers. Its operations will encompass a comprehensive range of activities, including technical benchmarking, simulation, materials development and on-vehicle testing.

The centre is expected to create approximately 40 professional engineering and salaried positions. While the project has been confirmed, the company has not yet announced a specific opening date or the precise location for the new facility.
