Vredestein Tyres Selected as OE for BMW 2 Series Active Tourer
- by TT News
- May 11, 2022
The BMW Group has selected Apollo Tyres’ Vredestein Ultrac tyres as original equipment (OE) for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, which went on sale across Europe in March 2022.
Produced at Apollo Tyres’ Gyöngyöshalász plant in Hungary, the Vredestein tyres will be supplied in three sizes: 205/65R16 95W, 205/60R17 97W XL and 225/50R18 99W XL, the company said in a statement.
The tyres are marked with a star symbol on the sidewall to indicate that they are a bespoke product for the BMW Group. Apollo Tyres said this was the first time it secured an original equipment deal with a BMW Group business.
As part of a multi-year agreement, Ultrac has been customised by Apollo Tyres in close collaboration with the BMW Group, resulting in bespoke OE tyres that facilitate the car’s safe and rewarding driving dynamics, while also delivering low levels of rolling resistance for enhanced fuel efficiency, the release said.
The tyres achieve an ‘A’ rating in both fuel economy and wet grip to satisfy the BMW Group’s driving performance needs.
The company said that the Ultrac star-marked tyres would be available in the replacement market as well as via BMW franchised dealers.
It said this is the latest in a series of OE supply agreements that Apollo Tyres secured with major car manufacturers over recent months, strengthening the Vredestein brand’s position within the European OE segment.
Benoit Rivallant, President and CEO at Apollo Tyres Europe, said, “During the development of the bespoke Ultrac tyres for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, our R&D team focused on supporting key characteristics of the vehicle, contributing to driving pleasure, refinement and efficiency.”
The company said the latest Ultrac tyre range would achieve a 15 per cent improvement in dry and wet handling over its predecessor. This is the result of an enhanced tyre cavity with a squarer footprint, stiffer tread pattern, and centre rib with parabolic lateral grooves, which combine to enhance steering response and precision for a safe and dynamic driving experience.
Additionally, the tyre’s five per cent improvement in rolling resistance boosts fuel efficiency and lowers CO2 emissions, the release claimed.
The Ultrac also features a 50 per cent increase in unique, tractionenhancing silica and resin compounds to achieve 10 per cent better braking on dry and wet surfaces, it pointed out.
Shock absorption and noise mitigation are enhanced by the reduced apex height, optimised sidewall construction and increased flex zone. In addition, the pitch sequence of the tyre has been optimised for different tyre diameters to increase acoustic comfort, the release added. (TT)

Yokohama-ATG Expands Galaxy MFS 101 SDS Range With White, Non-Marking Forklift Tyres
- by TT News
- November 21, 2024
Yokohama-ATG, a leading manufacturer of all-terrain and off-the-road tyres, has expanded its Galaxy MFS 101 SDS range of forklift tyres with the launch of white, non-marking tyres.
The Galaxy MFS 101 SDS range consists of puncture-proof SDS tyres with extended wear limits designed for high-intensity working shifts and long durability. These are premium, solid rubber tyres developed for tough demands, a long service life and high driving comfort. The addition of white, non-marking tyres is specifically aimed at clean working environments.
Marked by a 3-stage construction process, the forklift tyres feature reduced heat build-up, effective shock absorption and minimised vibrations. The pattern design guarantees a smooth ride and good steerability thanks to its continuous centre lug and circumferential grooves. Furthermore, the flat walls and wide flat profile offer excellent stability when using a forklift for vertical stacking. The tyres are also equipped with anti-slip steel beads for improved rim fitment
In a case study on a CAT 2.5-tonne forklift that was used for handling heavy pallets on asphalt, the Galaxy MFS 101 SDS outshone the competitors with impressive performance. The tyre delivered an approximate 900 working hours before replacement against competitors’ 500 working hours.
